This collection consists of materials created and/or collected by Dr. Studhalter. The bulk relates to a 1934 expedition to Mexico to study the Yaqui Indians, in which Studhalter participated. Material pertaining to the Yaqui expedition includes: Correspondence (1933-1935), diary (1934), newspaper clippings (1934 and undated), general notes (1934), and research notes (1934 and undated). Also in the collection are some literary productions (4 articles) dealing with botany and produced by Studhalter.

Professor of botany at Texas Technological College, where he served as the first Chairman of the Department of Biology. In 1934, Studhalter and a group of several others representing Texas Technological College went into Mexico to study the Yaqui Indians. Studhalter's role on the expedition was that of biologist, focusing on botany by studying Yaqui agriculture, plants native to the region, and plants used medicinally.
